Law is no longer, in my view, a collection of texts that merely draw the boundaries of what is permitted and what is prohibited. Rather, it is a system that gives coherence to disorder and places interests on an ethical scale that protects them from deviation. From that point, my understanding of justice has changed: it is not derived from the literal wording of the text alone, but from grasping its purpose and applying it well to reality, with discernment that listens attentively and a mind that weighs the rule against its consequences. For that reason, I do not see law as an authority that subjugates so much as I see it as a language that organizes interests, safeguards freedom, and holds it to its responsibilities.
This page is a space where I share some of my reflections on law and its intersections whenever the opportunity arises.
